Open and Affirming Explained

Open and Affirming (ONA) is the United Church of Christ's (UCC) designation for congregations, campus ministries, and other bodies in the UCC which make a public covenant of welcome into their full life and ministry to persons of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions.

For our congregation, we completed an extensive study on this topic. We examined a variety of issues and entered into a deliberate time of discernment, when we prayed and sought direction from God. This process yielded the public covenant statement, above. Then in February 2013, our congregation voted to adopt the statement. We were then granted the designation by the UCC. Our certificate is proudly displayed in our lobby.

"O.N.A."

Open and Affirming is typically abbreviated as ONA. While we strive to avoid this "insider jargon," we may slip occasionally. So we ask for your patience, understanding and forgiveness.

Our Statement

Through God's grace, we seek to welcome all persons into our church family by removing barriers and embracing differences of sexual orientation, gender identities and gender expressions, marital status, age, mental and physical ability, as well as racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

We encourage all to share their diverse, divine gifts in the full life and ministry of our church.
